My Journey in Creating AI Agent Teammates

My journey with AI agents began as a curiosity and drive to automate repetitive tasks in Python, quickly evolving into an immersive experience that reshaped my approach to searching for alpha, enhancing productivity, and embracing agentic-human collaboration. Initially leveraging accessible tools such as Cursor, Replit, GitHub Copilot, and Lovable, I discovered the true potential of AI agents (from my perspective) lies in collaborative partners rather than mere automation scripts. This led me to writing 7 key takeaways I learned from building AI Agent team members.

7 Key Takeaways from Building AI Agents

1. Embrace Iteration

When I started exploring AI agents, the first attempts were experimental, involving numerous iterations and enhancements. You will be unlikely to get the agents running with the intended output for the first time. Each round of trial and refinement taught me that successful agent-building requires patience, continuous experimentation, and iterative improvements rather than immediate perfection.

2. AI Agents as Collaborative Teammates

At Decasonic, AI agents quickly became essential teammates, actively collaborating rather than passively automating tasks. Our goal is not to automate five seconds or 5 minutes of workflows, but rather enhance our investment decision making and generate potential wins. My experience integrating these agents revealed their ability to handle vast data analyses and deliver strategic insights, significantly enhancing my decision-making and freeing human teammates to focus on higher-level strategic thinking. Agents also serve as effective members of the team, with us implementing an org structure and managerial agents that are able to direct the implementation and strategy of other agents.

3. Cost Efficiency Through Intelligent Deployment

The introduction of AI agents reshaped my perspective on resource management and productivity dramatically. I shifted my mindset from traditional hiring practices to strategically deploying AI agents, which proved more scalable and cost-effective. Teams implementing AI Agents will ask again whether a new hire is needed, or whether an agent can be hired in order to provide the designated and needed output. Witnessing how AI-driven solutions enhanced individual productivity and operational efficiency underscored the potential for sustained organizational growth.

4. The Decasonic AI Framework: Standardize for Scalability

Developing the Decasonic AI Framework was a pivotal moment in my journey. By establishing modular integrations such as Multi-Chain Protocol (MCP) servers and adopting a product-first approach with clearly defined Product Requirements Documents (PRDs), we successfully streamlined agent deployment. This framework not only simplified the process but also ensured that our AI agents remained focused, robust, and scalable.

5. Specialization is Crucial for Quality

Early experiences taught me that specialization significantly enhances AI agent performance. Generalist agents struggled to deliver precise insights, but specialized agents tailored for specific tasks—such as DeFi metrics or token analysis—consistently provided high-quality, actionable insights. I learned the power of deep, focused expertise in producing meaningful outcomes.

6. Smart Inputs Drive Smart Outputs

My firsthand experience emphasized the importance of quality inputs. The adage "garbage in, garbage out" became vividly clear as I learned that structured, context-rich data significantly improved the accuracy and utility of AI agent outputs. Agents and the underlying LLM models do incredibly well in structuring, unstructured data - but the context and information provided to the agent has to be laid clear to effectively deliver on outputs. Developing systematic internal knowledge bases provided a competitive advantage by enabling consistently superior results.

7. Agents That Evolve and Scale (Reinforcement Learning and Agentic Pipelines)

Throughout this journey, I recognized the immense potential of reinforcement learning. Creating feedback loops and databases allowed our AI agents to continuously learn, adapt, and improve over time. Additionally, enabling agents to identify and assist in building additional specialized teammates accelerated scalability, creating a powerful reinforcing cycle of innovation and growth.

Conclusion

Reflecting on my personal journey, building and integrating AI agents has profoundly reshaped my perspective on innovation, productivity, and teamwork. The lessons learned—embracing iteration, focusing on specialization, maintaining smart inputs, and continuously enhancing agent capabilities—highlight the remarkable synergy possible between humans and AI. AI agents, rather than replacing human abilities, amplify our potential, driving significant operational and strategic advancements. The future workforce is one that is hybrid, with humans and agents working side-by-side. Embracing agentic team mates now will prepare you for embracing the next evolution of AI - beyond software to physical.
